Waterfall Rappelling & Flying Fox at Sherpe-Napane Waterfall in Kokan

Sherpe-Napane Waterfall

This foundation is situated at village Nadhavade Sardawadi along Talere-Vaibhavwadi road.  It is in fact the water source of river named Gothna.  There is a grand temple of Mahadev near which a forceful stream of water burst out.  According to the opinion of environmental experts such bursts out of water is due to some volcano is ancient times.  The flow of the water stream turns into Gothana – river that flows in South to North direction.  Actually there is a confluence of three small rivulets near three temples of Shri Brahmadeo, Shri Mahadeo and Shri Nagdeo.  Besides there are some other small brooklets in the vicinity of main Umala there brooklets form the river Gothana that flows ahead to form the Napane fall which flows ahead through villages like Sherpe, Tithavali and Kharepatan.  The same river called Sukha River becomes ahead the Creek of Waghotan Vijaydurg where confluence of the creek and the Arabian Sea takes place.

Located at Sherpe village in Vaibhavwadi taluka this waterfall is known as Swimmers delight. A swim in its cool pool is very safe and refreshing. Here one can easily explore the secret of cascading water by reaching close to the spot from where water emerges from the top in the form of bubbles through hard and compact rocks. The area around the waterfall is also a natural habitat for the rare species of birds, especially for the Hornbills.

Kunkeshwar

This town is situated on the bank of Arabian Sea. There is a temple for the Hindu deity Shiva in the village. This temple is holy place in Konkan, and is also known as Konkan Kashi.
Kunkeshwar is built along the sea. The temple of Kunkeshwar was built many years back. According to legend, a sailor traveling in the sea for trade came near the beach of Kunkeshwar. Suddenly havoc appeared in sea. The sailor was a Muslim. The ship seemed to sink in the sea. He saw a lamp on that beach. He prayed to that lamp "I don't know who you are. But if you will help me and stop the havoc I will build a temple for you". And his ship came to the seashore of Kunkeshwar without any problem. He built the temple as promised. The Lingam was already there. As the Sailor was a non-Hindu, he thought that his religion will not accept him. Therefore he committed suicide from the top of temple.

Vijaydurg
The oldest fort on the Sindhudurg coast was constructed during the regime of Raja Bhoj II of the Shilahar dynasty (construction period 1193-1205). The fort was earlier known as "Gheria", as it is situated close to the village of Girye". Shivaji Maharaj captured this fort from Adil Shah of Bijapur in 1653 and renamed it as "Vijay Durg" as the then Hindu solar year's name was "Vijay" (Victory).
Earlier, the fort encompassed an area of 5 acres (1 acre = 4840 square yards or 4047 square meters) and was surrounded by sea on all four sides. Over the years the eastern trench was reclaimed and a road constructed thereon. Presently the area of fort is about 17 acres and is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides. Shivaji Maharaj extended the area of the fort by constructing three walls on the eastern side, each 36 meters high. He also constructed 20 bastions.
According to legend, this is one of only two Maratha forts where Shivaji Maharaj personally hoisted the saffron flag. The other fort is "Torana".
Vijaydurg Fort was called the "Eastern Gibraltar", as it was virtually impregnable. Its locational advantages include the 40 km long Waghotan / Kharepatan creek. Large vessels cannot enter the shallow water of this creek. Also, Maratha warships could be anchored in this creek and yet remain invisible from the sea. It is a protected monument.

Rameshwar Temple
Shri Dev Rameshwar Temple is located in village Rameshwar Wadi in Devgad taluka of Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra, India. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Shiva. It is a historic temple built in 16th century. Its chief interest is the approach about 250 yards long, cut through rock fifty feet deep. The idol, a four-armed figure seated on a bull, is of solid silver said to weigh a hundred kgs and is in good condition at present.
