     Roopkund better known as Skeleton Lake is located in Garwhal Himalaya, Uttrakhand, India at an altitude of about 5,029 meters. It is a very popular trekking summit. Every year thousands of people come here from all over the world for trekking. People who are adventurous finds Roopkund to be the most exciting and thrilling trekking spot. If you are planning for trekking to Roopkund it will take maximum 8 days to complete the trekking.

     The best time to do trekking this lake is either in May-June which is just before monsoon or September-October which is just after monsoon. You can register for trekking during this period. People those who have completed trekking in Roopkund also say that trekking in Roopkund is in itself a lifetime achievement. Roopkund is covered with ice almost all the time. Trekkers love this place and want to come here again and again. From this mystery lake one can easily view some of the famous Himalayan peaks like Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba and Trishul.

     Basically Roopkund is located at the base of the two Himalayan peaks Trishul and Nanda Ghungti. A very interesting story is related with Roopkund. It is said that more than 500 human skeletons were found at the edge of the lake. Much research has been done and finally the fact that came out with the research was that the skeletons were of people from 12 to 15th century who died because of heavy hailstorms. Some bodies are still well preserved because of the icy condition over there. Due to all these reasons it is also known as a mystery lake. The best place for enjoying your holidays. 4th June, Saturday Day 01

16:30 - Reach New Delhi

22:00 - Catch 15013 Ranikhet Express from Delhi. Participants from other cities can plan their travel till Delhi and catch this train


5th June, Sunday Day 02

05:00 - Reach Kathgodam

Pick up from kathgodam Railway station at 6.30 am. Drive to Lohajung base camp. Approximate arrival time at Lohajung 6 pm. (Trekगुरु will arrange transport from Kathgodam to Lohajung at 6.30 am. The cost of this will have to be borne by the trekkers)


6th June, Monday Day 03

Trek starts. Lohajung to Didina.

The bridge over Neel Ganga is a beautiful place to relax during the trek

7th June, Tuesday Day 04

Didina to Bedni Bugyal (via Ali Bugyal)

To enjoy the seductive views from Ali Bugyal, you need to reach there before afternoon.

Camp over night at Bedni Bughyal.


8th June, Wednesday Day 05

Bedni Bugyal to Bhagwabasa

You would have to start your day early as you would like to reach Bhawabasa as early to acclimatize to the weather.

The trail towards Bhagwabasa goes through snow patches and you would enjoy the journey.


9th June, Thursday Day 06

Bhagwabasa to Roopkund and back to Patar Nachauni

You have to start the day as early as 5 AM. The sooner you start, the better it is for you as the snow is still hard, while later in the day, it would get soft and your feet would start sinking in. Roopkund is a 5 km gradually up-hill climb from Bhagwabasa. You will have steep climb towards the end of the trail to reach Roopkund. It would take about 3 - 3½ hours to reach Roopkund. 

Once you climb to Roopkund, you must climb up to Junargali. Trekkers must visit unless the weather is very harsh and does not permit you. The climb to Junargali is not long. It is around 200 ft and doesn’t take much time. It is hardly a climb of 25 - 30 min. 

You can start off early to return back to Pathar Nachauni via Bhagwabasa. You need to be careful in trekking back as the snowy slopes may trick you.

10th June, Friday Day 07

Patar Nachauni to Lohajung via wan

You’ll be trekking from Pathar Nachauni all the way to Wan, and then driving for an hour to Lohajung. 


11th June, Saturday Day 08

Depart for Kathgodam. Approximate arrival time at Kathgodam is 6 - 7 pm

The cost of the transport will have to be borne by the trekkers.

12th June, Sunday Day 09

04:00 - Reach Delhi and take flight/train back to your respective destinations

Do's, Dont's & Facts:-

- Kindly carry 1 Identity proof

- Trekkers are picked up from Kathgodam railway station at 6:30 am. Usually, trekkers are clubbed together with other participants to make a group. The group travels together to Lohajung in shared cabs. A shared vehicle (10 seater) costs approximately Rs.5600 one way. Participants are expected to share the cost likewise.

- Normally Trekगुरु expect to carry your personal luggage on your own, if you don’t want to carry your backpack so you can give it to porter, but you have to informe us in advance and have to pay Rs. 300/- extra per day per bag or Rs.1500-2500 for entire trek.

- If a trek is called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity or unforeseen circumstances (like rains, earthquake, landslides, bandh etc.) then you will be given full refund. If it is cancelled mid-way then partial refund will be given.

- The expenses occurring from change in schedule due to weather conditions or personal health issues are to be borne by the participants. The Himalaya Destination will not be responsible for weather as well as health issues.

- Our daily schedule during trip may differ from our usual daily life schedule with respect to day chores, tea timing, food timing etc. Please don’t complain about these petty issues.

 - On most of the days we will wake up early to travel comfortably and enjoy the serenity of morning. Early to bed, early to rise will be followed particularly on the days of trek.

- Always respect the local people and their culture. We try to learn more from them about the place.

- Please do not carry or wear any valuables, ornaments, jewellery, etc. If carried, then we Do Not take any liability for the same. 

- It is most essential to be fit and fine before heading for trekking. While planning your trekking trip, it is preferable to have a medical fitness check-up done.
