Tattva Adventure's 1 day Monsoon Trek To Tandulwadi on 17th July 2016 (Leaving on 16th Night)
Height: 1900 ft
Year : 13th Century
Built by : Yadava Period
Location : Saphala
ST. GEORGE FORTThis fort might have been built in the period of the Yadavas or may be even before that. It is also mentioned in the Gujarat Sultan Dynasty. Ahmad Shah's son Jaffar Khan had won this area in 1429. He ruled for 25 years and died in the year 1454. After that, the Sultan of Ahmadabad asked his chief to stay and look after the administration of Tandulwadi.
Later, King Bahadur Shah made Allahuddin the chief of Visamanagad and Tandulwadi Fort. Afterwards Portuguese acquired the Northern-Konkan and Tandulwadi Fort. In the year 1730, due to major complaints from the local people, Maratha started to conquer Vasai. In 1731, while conquering Vasai, Marathas acquired the Tandulwadi Fort.
But due to rivalry with the Nizam, the Marathas could not pay attention to Tandulwadi Fort as they could not handle two problems simultaneously. Meanwhile, the Maratha had signed a treaty with the Portuguese in which the Marathas must return all the forts including the Tandulwadi Fort and other belongings of Portuguese which Marathas had previously won.
However, in the year 1737 Chimaji Appa came to Vasai and with the help of “Vittal Vishwanath” and “Aawjikawde” won this fort on May 2, 1737. It was under Peshwai and then it moved into the hands of the Britishers and then under the hands of Independent India.
