Dear Friends,

We at RAC has arranged Trekking in Satara which will cover 5 forts in two days of time span

Brief info about the place:- As we all know satara has a list of historical evidences from Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj era,
Satara is a city located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India, near the confluence of the river Krishna and its tributary river Venna. The city was established in the 16th century and was the seat of Raja of Satara Chhatrapati Shahu.

Major Attractions: -
1) Pandavgad
2) Vairatgad ( Varugad)
3) Shere Limb
4) Kalyangad
5) Chandan
6) Vandan

Pandavgad :- 4177 feet above sea level, lies four miles north-west of Wai. The fort is conspicuous over a low spur branching east from its southern angle. From a distance it appears a square fortification with natural escarpment of cut black stone. The fort can be reached by a foot-path diverting to the north from Bhoganv, a village 3 miles west of Wai on Wai -Velang State Transport route. In Bhoganv village, there is a small memorial of Vaman Pandit, the celebrated Sanskrit poet of the 15th century. The approach to the fort is very difficult and at places the path is barely a foot in width with the hill slopes on one side and deep valleys on the other.

Vairatgad: - Vairatgad fort is a fort situated near to the town of Wai in Maharashtra, India. The top of the fort is very small. There are remnants of old buildings. The bastion at the entrance is dilapidated.

Bara motachi Vihir :- (Sheri Limb) - This well was completed in 1646 by
Sau. Virubhai Bhosale and was meant to be a water source to all the farms around. The well is octagonal in shape and was built to look like dug-out shivling i.e a vertical column with an arm extending to the side. It is 110 ft deep and 50 foot in diameter.

Kalyangad :- Kalyangad Fort 3,537 feet above sea level, stands at the end of a spur of the Mahadev range running south-west from the villages of Vikhale and Bhadle, eight miles north of Koregaon and about fourteen miles north-east of Satara.

Chandan – Vandan :- Chandan and Vandan are the Dual forts just off the satara road. The basic purpose of these forts is to guard and keep watch on the route going to Satara. As soon as you cross the Khambataki ghat you descend down in fertile planes of Wai on banks of Krishna river. This area being fertile was traditionally very important from the economical point of view and hence became important politically too. The forts Vairatgad and Pandavgad guard this area. As soon as you move south towards Satara from this place you encounter with the dual forts of Chandan and Vandan on the eastern side.
