Amboli is very rich in flora and fauna and you will in all probability be able to spot Wild boars, Deer, Mongoose, Palm civet, Bison, Monkeys, Maharashtra state animal Malabar giant squirrel and maybe a leopard too in case you happen to be at the right spot at the right time. Amboli is also a draw with enthusiastic bird watchers who come here to glimpse and photograph various species like the Hornbill, Paradise Flycatcher, Indian scimitar babbler, Orange headed thrush, Oriental dwarf kingfisher, Blue-faced malkoha and a lot more. A huge number of Butterflies like Southern birdwing, Malabar tree nymph, Malabar raven etc can be found in the forest. If we consider herpatofauna (reptiles) and amphibians than Amboli is extremely rich. Snakes like Pied shield tail, Malabar pit viper and Amphibians like Amboli bush frog, Malabar gliding frog, Dancing frog which are rare for any other forest in Maharashtra could be found in this jungle.
In the hills of Amboli village lies the source of the Hiranyakeshi river, and an ancient Shiva temple (called Hiranyakeshwar) exists at the cave where the water emerges. The main attraction for tourists is the incredibly high rainfall (7 m average per year) and the numerous waterfall.....
