Dear Friends We invite You All For MumbaiRangers Range Trek Ahupeghat to bhimashankar 17 & 18 Sept 2016

An Off beat Trek which You Never Heared of.

Ahupe Ghat is a pass connecting to Khopivali Village in the konkan and Ahupe village on the Ghats. Trekking through this ghat is not labourious.

The trek passes through thick forest and is ideal for one day hike especially in the monsoon, with picturesque views from the top.

The edges of the ghat drop vertically to the konkan and there are many narrow gorges, with breathtaking drops. In the monsoon,

it hosts waterfalls all around and gushing streams in the gorges. Ahupe village is very picturesque. It looks like a remote hamlet

because on one side is the steep narrow drop to konkan and on the other three, there is a mountain range enclosing it, cutting it off from the

Deccan plateau. From top one can see Damdamia, Bhimashankar, Durga Killa, Dhakoba, Gorakhgad etc.

Medium Trek Initial part of the Ahupe Ghat trek is a walk through the fields and crossing streams but once after crossing the forest the trek takes

you to the base of the mountain and from here onwards the climb is quite stiff.

Bhimashankar is one of the 12 Jyotirling’s of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills.

The area around Bhimashankar is covered with thick dense jungle, is a Wildlife Sanctuary. The trek to It being Shiva’s abode and one of the 12 swayambhu

jyotirling’s helps increase the attractiveness of Bhimashankar as a religious tourism destination. The temple of Bhimashankar is around 1200 – 1400 years

old and is built on the Hemad Panthi style. There are very beautiful sculptures and paintings on the roof and pillars of the temple. At the front of the

temple hangs a huge metal bell cast in 1729. There is also a 15-20 feet high “Deepmala” or lamppost in the outer corridor of the temple. There is also an

inscription on stone on this lamppost. It is to be noted that the original name of the river Chandrabhaga at Pandharpur is Bhima. This Bhima River

originates at Bhimashankar
