We at Wild Rangers glad to invite you all for trek to Naneghat Pass & Jivdhan Fort on 27-28 June 2015
Naneghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range near Junnar in Pune district of Maharashtra, India. During the reign of the Satavahana (200 BCE–190 CE), the pass was extensively used as a trade route between Kalyan and Junnar. Literally, the name nane means “coin” and ghat means “pass”. The name is given because this path was used as a tollbooth to collect toll from traders crossing the hills.
Jivdhan (or Jeevdhan) is a hill fortress situated 45 km near modern day town of Naryangoan in Junnar Taluka of Pune district in Maharashtra, India. The fort, which rises 1145 meters (3754 ft) above sea level, is located in the Sahyadri mountain range. The fort was looted and destroyed by the British upon siege between 1815 -1818. This is one of the forts known as ‘Famous 5′. Chavaand, Hadsar, Shivneri, Jivdhan and Naneghat form the Famous 5 trek. This is a high difficulty grade trek due to the misleading jungle tracks and the necessity and knowledge of using climbing equipment.
