Ladakh Festival

The Leh Valley lies at an altitude of about 3,500m and the surrounding mountains rise to over 6,000m. Ladakh as they say is the Land of high passes and it lives up to the tag as the three of the highest motor-able passes - Khardungla, Tanglangla and Changla lie in Ladakh.

Khardungla- the highest of them all, at 18,360 ft gives way to the Nubra valley - the land of sand dunes. The Pensi la at 14,436 ft is the gateway to Zanskar, one of the most unexplored destinations. Ladakh is also known as "Little Tibet" as it is heavily influenced by Tibetan culture.

Ladakh festival is celebrated from 20th to 26th September, every year in Leh and its villages. The inauguration ceremony of the festival takes place in Leh on a large scale with a procession of several cultural troupes from different part of the region which traverses through Leh Market. There is dancing, singing, traditional music, people wearing colorful traditional Ladakhi dresses. There are musical concerts too.

Detailed Itinerary :

Day 1 - 17th September  - Arrival in Leh and transfer to Lamayuru

After reaching Leh airport (on your own), you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to Lamayuru.  Lamayuru is lower in altitude than Leh and helps the visitor for easy acclimatization. Spend the day in the hotel for rest and acclimatization. Visit Lamayuru monastery (The oldest monastery in Ladakh) in the evening. Take some memorable snaps on the famous moonlandscape. Moonlandscape resembles the Lunar surface.

Day 2 - 18th September - Lamayuru to Kargil and visit to Drass

After breakfast, proceed to Kargil. En route, enjoy the breath-taking scenery from the view Point. Visit the Mulbek Buddha Statue. After hotel check-in in Kargil, visit the Kargil War memorial in Drass It was in this very region in which the Indian Army fought and won the famous war of Kargil. Take some memorable snaps of Tololing, Tiger Hill and the war memorial. Return to Kargil and visit Kargil border to catch the fine view of the first post of Pakistan in the Line of Control (Subject to political situation prevailing at that point of time).

Day 3 - 19th September - Kargil - Leh

After an early breakfast, proceed to Leh. En route, visit Mulbek (known for its huge Buddha Statue) and Lamayuru monastery (The oldest monastery in Ladakh). Admire the confluence of Indus – Zanskar Rivers and the effects of Magnetic Hill (Defiance of the law of gravity). Visit Gurudwara Patthar Sahib and reach Leh in the evening. Overnight stay in Leh

Day 4 - 20th September - Leh sight seeing – Leh Festival

Experience the Leh festival on its opening day as the artist groups from various villages and tribes visit the Leh town to showcase the wealth of their cultural heritage.

After lunch Leh local sightseeing. Evening free for shopping in the colourful Leh Market.

Day 5 – 21st September - Leh – Diskit (Nubra Valley)

After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley (Known as the Valley of Flowers and the warmest region in Ladakh) via Khardungla pass. This road is considered to be the highest motorable road of the world. En route, admire the spectacular views of the never ending snow-capped mountain ranges around Khardungla Pass (18,380 feet). After spending some time at Khardungla, proceed to Nubra. After Hotel check-in, enjoy camel Safari in the evening.

Day 6 – 22nd September - Nubra Valley to Turtuk (A Day Excursion)

After an early breakfast, proceed to Turtuk (A village that was won by India in the 1971 war with Pakistan) and extremely close to the border. Visit a 16th Century Mosque, (comprising of a touch of Turkish & Iranian culture), ruined fort of Dhards and Monastery. Admire the magnificent view of the famous K2 peak (The second highest peak in the world after Mount Everest). Return back to Nubra

Day 7 – 23rd September - Excursion to Pangong Lake

After an early breakfast, travel to Pangong Lake via Changla Pass (17,586 feet) the third highest pass of the world. Pangong Lake is a salt water body of 120 km in length and 6 – 7 Km broad at the longest point. It is bisected by the international border between India & China (2/3 of the lake is in China’s possession). Visit the exact location of the famous movie “Three idiots”. Enjoy outing along the banks of the lake and then drive back to Leh by the same route.

Day 8 – 24th September - Leh Airport Departure

After breakfast, get transferred to Leh Airport for boarding the flight to your destination. Tour Concludes with some wonderful long lasting memories

Rules & Regulations :

·       Organizers may make any changes in the programme as per the prevailing circumstances, without giving prior notice to the participant. 

·       No shortcut in the trek / Tour

·       Smoking & Drinking of intoxicants are strictly prohibited.

·       All participants are requested to maintain timings meant for the trek / Tour by leader to avoid inconvenient to all other participants.

·       Keep the campsite clean. Leaving your garbage at camp site is not allowed.

·       Please avoid bringing valuables, jewellery or expensive things.
