Dear Trekkers and Routine Breakers,
With one of the best Monsoon Getaways, Outdoor Adventure Management bring you Trek to “NANEGHAT” on 8th July 2012 in Malshej region.
Naneghat Trek:-
This trek is a PASS, which once in history, enjoyed prime importance. The pass was mainly used by traders and is the shortest route to descend down to KONKAN (Kalyan port) from the Deccan Plateau. At Naneghat you can find inscriptions, steps, rock-cut rest houses and cisterns that date back as far as 1st century B.C. The huge pot located on top plateau towards the entrance is said to be used as a JAKAT NAKA (Toll) where traders placed SWARNA MOHOR (Gold coin) to gain access to the road. The inscriptions in the caves indicate work of Satavahana rulers who came into prominence after the fall of Mauryan Empire. The Naneghat records have proved very important in establishing the history of the region. Vedic Gods like Yama (Hinduism) Indra, Chandra and Surya are mentioned here. The mention of Samkarsana and Vasudeva indicate the prevalence of Bhagavata form of Hinduism in the Satavahana dynasty
